Bio:

Born December 30, 1947 in Brookhaven, Mississippi, to parents Edward F. & Janet M. Moreton both of Brookhaven.  A lifelong resident of Brookhaven, Steve Moreton is married to the lovely Beverly Hare Moreton with two sons Alan, 28, & Layne, 23.  He has one grandchild, Ava Grace Moreton, 5.

Steve graduated from Brookhaven High School in 1966. He attended Copiah Lincoln Community College and the University of Southern Mississippi. He has been serving the City of Brookhaven for 19 years; in 1989 he was hired as the City Building Inspector & Purchasing Agent.  In 2006, he was asked to serve as the Director of Public Works and maintain his capacity as Purchasing Agent for the city.

His ancestry runs deep in Brookhaven as his great grandfather, A. E. Moreton, was one of the first builders in Brookhaven.  Mr. A.E. Moreton, originally of Baltimore, Maryland, was requested to build the Opera House in New Orleans. After completing the project, on his way back home to Baltimore he got off the train in Brookhaven and decided to settle in the city. He went on to become a prominent businessman in the area. His grandfather, Alfred Moreton, served as Alderman and Mayor of Brookhaven from 1939-1949.  Steve’s father, Edward, was a residential & commercial contractor and built many of the existing businesses in Brookhaven.  Steve began helping his father at a young age and grew to love the City he helped his father to build. His love of the city aids him in his job, as he keeps the City’s best interest at heart in all of his decisions.

When not at work, Steve enjoys spending time with friends and family, also an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially loves fishing with his sons.  He also enjoys watching his granddaughter, Ava Grace, play ball and dance.
